Jeffrey Lee_Original Painting
This painting is by far the most SIGNIFICANT paintings I have ever done and will probably ever do. And it was an honour to paint a portrait of Jeffery Lee. And if you know me personally, you’ve probably heard me talking about him. I put a lot of pressure on myself throughout creating this piece because I knew the importance of telling his story correctly and I also didn’t give myself heaps of time to dwell on it either (which I tend to do when I get fussy about a painting).
Not enough people know this man’s story and I encourage everyone to look him up and learn about his story and what he did to save his country for generations to come
This is Jeffrey Lee, the proud traditional owner of the koongara region in Kakadu this land includes the well known traditional art site known as Nourlangie Rock but the correct name is actually Burrungkuy.
Jeff became sole traditional owner of this land very young and fought for over 30 years to save his land . His efforts were not for nothing because on the 27th of June, 2011… Koongarra was added to the World Heritage List and along with Kakadu will be protected forever.
His strength, and determination are something to admire and to look up to by generations to come. His will to never let the corruption and greed distract him from what truly matters.
His story MUST be shared and more people need to hear about his legacy. Therefore, I encourage everyone to visit Kakadu National Park and research for yourself this magnificent place and its rich history.
He has had a massive impact on the way that I view this world. He inspires me everyday to be proud of who I am and where I come from. He inspires me to be unapologetically passionate about everything I care about and to NEVER be afraid to fight for what is right.
I chose to paint a portrait for him because he is one of my role models and I am lucky enough to call him my uncle.
